CANDLE MAKING - SYDNEY
A class for your eyes, your nose, your hands and your heart with our favourite Frenchie, Elise Pioch Balzac
Everything Elise touches turns to gold. Born in the South of France her childhood was filled with olfactory experiences of the most wondrous kind (think long lunches with foraged foods and lavender-filled baths). After years spent working in Paris for Hermes she moved to Australia and although she loved it she longed for the comforts of home. She found that her scent memory was the strongest and most evocative, and so her range of candles, Maison Balzac was born.
This evening class with the very charming Elise Pioch Balzac is where you become the candle and fragrance maker! In this class we dive nose first into the world of sensory experience and learn Elise’s exact science of candle making. We will set up a 'lab' where you will select and pour your own candles. Who knows where this class will take you but you will leave with a collection of incredibly unique, decadent and beautifully fragrant candles, all hand poured.
You will be completely blown away by Elise's library of fragrances. Like La Rose - a poesy of soft florals with tops of morning dew and white cotton, delicate buds of tea rose and geranium, powdered violet and a dry down of rosewood and soft musk. The inspiration was her Grandmother's garden filled with old fashioned roses and tiny wild violets. Or La Lumiere, a warm and spicy fragrance with top notes of soft grounded clove and oriental spices, middle notes of french leather and dark amber, followed by base notes of burnt cedar wood and labdanum tree. The idea was to recreate the smell of an old cinema with paper tickets, worn out leather seating and dusty floor boards.
Access to Elise's fragrance lab is a unique opportunity to learn this divine pastime using her incredible nose as your guide.
Note: Please don't think this is for vintage teacup people only, a few minimalists in our office are bringing their Danish glass and Japanese ceramics to fill.
