BUNDLE: ONE DAY NATURAL DYE COLOUR EXPLORATION + INDIGO INTENSIVE - SYDNEY 27 & 28 OCTOBER 2018
NATURAL DYE COLOUR EXPLORATION: THE CLASS
This full day is devoted to natural dye and vegetal colour and how to use sourced colour from local surrounds. The day will allow you to immerse yourself in the natural dye process and its glorious results - we will work with flowers, turmeric, onions, tea, coffee, avocado pips (I know right?) and other natural ingredients we may forage locally prior to the workshop.
The nuances of natural dye will blow your mind and you will spend the day creating 4 - 5 of your own natural colours. You will learn about fabric preparation, mordanting fabrics, create a dye sample swatch book as well as make your own scarf. “The real joy of the day will be discovering your own low impact naturally derived dyes,” says Jo, “and we will work on silk, cotton and wools and watch the wonder of onion skins, eucalyptus and natural materials to create your own sampler book.” Additional outcomes of your 6 hour day will also include a custom dye data sheet, notebook and a solid understanding of natural dye to build your own practice as a natural dyer.
The morning is dedicated to learning about dyes and preparing fabric for dyeing and in the afternoon we will dye samples and create a final sample library for future reference.
- Sample fabrics
- A notebook for samples
- Technical file data sheets
- All dyes and info

YOU WILL LEAVE WITH:

INDIGO INTENSIVE: THE CLASS
Take your Shibori skills to new levels of dye-style with textiles guru Joanna Fowles.
This is the day to go beyond your sampler and really explore your dyeing hobby. As a UTS textile and Shibori teacher, the wondrous process and outcomes of Shibori are Joanna's favourite thing.
We have developed this as the ultimate Shibori all-day class. Could this be the best indigo day of your year? Quite possibly. All day vats, double the drying space and a reverse Shibori bleaching technique class included.
No prior knowledge needed, just the love and appreciation of indigo. Each student receives a genuine indigo cake from Auroville, South India. It vibrates with pure pigment and you will fall deeper in love with this medium more than ever.
Feel free to bring your own things in (bedding, scarves, pj's, jeans or pillowslips) to add to the vat - once you start Shibori you don't stop.
In this year's more intimate class setting, work at your own pace under Jo's expert eye, beginners and advanced welcome alike.
This Class includes a pair of pillow cases, 2 silk scarves, a set of 2 napkins and tea towel, to try both techniques. And we also give you a light lunch, delicious snacks and endless cups of fragrant tea.
